Sports plays an instrumental role in a child’s education. Imparting valuable knowledge that will assist them throughout life.
These lessons include teamwork, sportsmanship, how to lose with grace and how to make on the spot decisions. But what is the right age group for children to take up sports?
With Teddy Tennis, your child can begin as young as 2 ½ years old. Teddy Tennis is a sports curriculum which was initially established in England, eventually making its way to South Africa.
What is Teddy Tennis? This initiative caters for children from 2 ½ to 6 years of age, teaching them tennis through the Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (VAK) learning style. Meaning that the instructor teaches children pictures, many of which involve inspirational teddy bear characters, music and physical participation.
Teddy Tennis began at St Dominics Newcastle at the beginning of 2018. Over the past year, 14 children participated in the extra-curricular activity.
Finding their way around the tennis court under the watchful eye of their coach, Johny Masimanga, these youngsters are well on their way to becoming pros.
On Wednesday, December 5, Teddy Tennis hosted its prize giving. The children’s dedication and hard work not falling on blind eyes.
Hen’ri Mostert of Masters Financial Services Group (PTY) Ltd sponsored bottled water and sweets for the day.
While beaming with pride that they each received an award for their efforts, the highlight for the children was having a lesson in front of their parents.
This allowed the children to boast about their development. Taking the first step in becoming future athletes.
Well done to all the children!
