St Dominics Newcastle dominates Midmar Mile

St Dominics Newcastle takes the plunge

As one of the most popular open water challenges, the Midmar Mile draws thousands of competitive swimmers.

Taking the plunge, six learners from St Dominics Newcastle travelled to Midmar Dam with the intention of dominating the challenging race.

Abigail Peters finished with a time of 24 minutes and 26 seconds, whereas Jayde Caldecott finished the race in 36 minutes and 48 seconds. Not to be outdone Michaela Claassen finished with a time of 36 minutes and 50 seconds.

Erich van Zyl finished the race with a time of 37 minutes and 57seconds. He was followed by Robyn Murdey with a time of 38 minutes and 2 seconds. Grace Hoatson completed the daunting race with a time of 38 minutes and 3 seconds.

Joining the six students were three parents in the Midmar Mile, was St Dominics Newcastle staff member Ansie Joubert and past staff member of the school, Tanya van Niekerk.

Ansie Joubert swam the Midmar Mile in a time of 35 minutes and 57 seconds. Where as Tanya van Niekerk finished the race with a time of 35 minutes and 25 seconds.

Franz van Zyl, parent, finished with a time of 45 minutes and 38 seconds. Fellow parent, Kim Hoatson swam the Midmar Mile in 38 minutes and 28 seconds. Catharina Peters, parent, completed the swimming challenge in 36 minutes and 52 seconds.
