Music is more than a mere pastime for Nikisha Pramee. It is a way of life, a passion which has seen her talent being recognised by the Artes Awards.
The Artes Awards take place during the annual Big M Entertainment Festival in Durban every year, focusing on artists who keep their cultural heritage alive through music.
“I was nominated by someone from Durban and went to the event on March 9 at Sibiya Casino. It was overwhelming being nominated,” she says.
Singing since the age of seven-years-old, Nikisha has released three albums. These albums featured on Lotus FM, with some of her tracks impressively holding spots on the local top 20 songs, for three consecutive years. She has also featured at several shows around South Africa, performing alongside several well-known figures in the music industry.
She is also the lead female singer for the NKZN based band, Avantika Sungeeth.
With a vast amount of experience in the music industry and a deep-seated passion for singing, Nikisha was awed when she won an award for specialising in South African Indian Music and cover songs for Bollywood.
“It is a really exciting experience for me, to be honoured with an award.”
With the award now under her belt, Nikisha says she intends to continue singing for as long as possible. Going as far as possible.
But what is it about music and singing that Nikisha enjoys so much?
“Music is life. In everything we do, from waking up, going to work and working out gym, we are always listening to music. While it is a hobby for me, singing is a way of expressing oneself, reaching out to people and being able to touch them,” Nikisha concludes.
Congratulation to the massively talented, award-winning, Nikisha Pramee, proving homegrown talent is always the best.
