Hockey is more than a sport for Karli Janse van Rensburg. It is a way of life, a passion which is set to take her to new heights in her future.
At just 17-years-old, Karli will be going to the Netherlands from September 22 to October 3 to take part in a hockey programme.
“I was chosen to go to a tournament which took place in Bethlehem from March 23 to March 26. During the trip, I met the Netherlands Hockey Team, took part in a hockey clinic, played in matches and played with the Netherlands team.”
The Ferrum High School learner is ecstatic to have been chosen for the opportunity to travel to the Netherlands. “It is something I am truly looking forward to and to get the experience, will just be amazing, especially since the Netherlands has the best hockey team in the world,” she enthuses.
Initially hailing from Pietermaritzburg and moving to Newcastle two years ago, Karli began playing hockey in Grade 5.
“I love everything about hockey and if I can, I would love to play on a professional level,” she says.
With the trip to the Netherlands bringing her one step closer to her dreams, Karli is facing one obstacle. She needs sponsorships to get to the Netherlands.
At present, Karli needs a staggering R50 000. To help with the costs of the trip, a crowdfund account has been created to help her fulfil her dream.
If anyone would like to assist Karli to pursue her dream in playing hockey in the Netherlands, they can contribute to the cause by clicking onto the crowdfund link: A Young Girl’s Hockey Dream
