Addictions come in all shapes and sizes. Everyone has one. Whether you are a shopaholic, a bookaholic, a smoker or enjoy binge eating MacDonald’s, addiction is always there.
However, there are addictions that break away from the more “acceptable” ones. Addictions which are just downright bizarre.
Here are our selection of the most bizarre addictions and the addicts that indulge in their guilty, little pleasures.
Julia Caples, a woman from Pennsylvania, claims she is addicted to human blood. So much so, she has been drinking it every day for the last 30 years.
She claims it makes her feel alive and keeps her beautiful. I find that drinking whiskey also makes me feel alive and beautiful. The whiskey is also a safer option, considering the chances of contracting diseases such as HIV.
While most crave a packet of chips or they indulge in the sweet delights of chocolate, Patrice Benjamin-Ramgoolam from London enjoys snacking on bricks, wallpaper and plaster. Her dentist must make a fortune!
Patrice has PICA Syndrome which involves eating stuff which isn’t edible to say the least. She started eating walls when she was 17-years-old and is now seeking psychological assistance.
What is wrong with people? What is wrong with tea, coffee, fizzy drinks or fruit juice?
Carrie Steele, a 54-year-old woman from Colorado, apparently overcame a malignant melanoma cancer through alternative therapies. She was then struck with a brain aneurysm in 2006. After struggling with headaches for two years and fearing her cancer would return, Carrie had a dream in which she was told to drink her own pee.
After researching urine therapy, she drinks up to five glasses of wee a day. She even brushes her teeth with it and uses urine as a moisturiser.
Her headaches are gone by the way. But at what cost? Ewww….
Washing detergent & Soap
Tempestt Henderson of Florida has a rare medical condition which sees her eating five bars of soap a week and washing powder.
She claims she loves the clean feeling it gives her. Claiming that eating the cleaning materials is so much better than merely washing in it.
Uhmm, okay, and people tell me I’m strange for enjoying good old-fashioned haggis.
A Florida couple is taking their love for coffee to entirely new levels. They don’t use mugs, but rather opt for coffee enemas.
Mike and Trina, who refuse to give their surname due to obvious reasons, are so addicted to coffee enemas that they have at least four times a day. At times, the couple even savours 10 coffee enemas.
Call me old-fashioned, I will have my coffee in a mug with a biscuit or two.
With an array of rather bizarre addictions, next time you indulge in your chocolate or shopping addiction, rest assured at least you aren’t addicted to coffee enemas or human blood.
Until next time, have yourself a Freaky Friday!
