Artificial Intelligence (AI) is constantly evolving, making our daily lives easier. Thanks to technology companies, our cell phones, televisions, computers and even our very motor vehicles are becoming more and more intelligent.
But, did you know that China has recently introduced the world’s very first AI news anchors? That’s right, a digital news anchor that is set to change the way of television news.
China’s state media agency Xinhua collaborated with the search engine company Sougou.com. But, why create an AI news anchor? Apparently, this will improve efficiency and cut down on news production costs.
Unveiled at the World Internet Conference in China at the beginning of this month, Xinhau claims the anchor can learn from live broadcasting videos by himself, as well as read text as naturally as a professional news anchor.
Resembling a real human, the digital presenter can simulate facial expressions and physical movement. Just like a real human news anchor.
However, the AI anchor can work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and can be copied and present at different scenes, unlike his human counterparts.
He will work tirelessly, keeping people informed as texts are typed into his system.
With the media industry calling for continuous innovation, embracing the digital era, is this the way of the future? The following video clip shows the anchor’s abilities:
With this AI news anchor preparing to challenge human news anchors, will this system end in the media industry? Or will AI move into other aspects of human life?
Xinhua claims the system can be customised to different clients for different industries.
What are your thoughts on the AI news anchor? Do you think this is the first step in removing human bias from the media world? Or do you think this makes it easier for the state to control the news given to the world?
