In an era where medical science caters for ailments and sickness reins, it seems there is more to resolving certain ailments than just modern medication.
As of February, Newcastillians can now experience the joys of Chinese pressure massage which is done by Vibhuti Magan.
“I initially began my training in China when I was 17 -years old,” says 30-year-old Vibhuti.
What makes Chinese Pressure Massage so special?
“It is a traditional form of medical massage, which can help a lot with certain conditions,” Vibhuti explains.
Massage as part of Chinese medical treatment goes back approximately 4 000 years, with textbooks appearing as early as the fourth century B.C., alongside the earliest Chinese medical texts.
Apparently, massaging appears to have developed alongside both therapeutic exercise (qigong) and acupuncture. It depends on the same understanding of the meridians and the flow of qi (energy) in the human body.
Working in her office at 34 Murchison Street, Vibhuti says there are several benefits to Chinese pressure massage.
These benefits include:
- Reducing stress
- Improving sleep
- Relaxing muscles and joints
- Soothing both pain and discomfort
- Reducing digestive issues
- Alleviating chronic paint
- Minimising headaches
While her practice is still relatively new in Newcastle, Vibhuti says she loves her profession. “I really enjoy helping people and seeing them leave feeling refreshed.”
As she establishes herself within the community, Vabhuti is looking at opening another branch in Arbor Park. “This is so people who do not have time to come see me during working hours, can come see me after 5pm.”
Will the tradition of Chinese pressure massage help relieve the tension some Newcastillians face in their daily lives? Only time will tell. But Vabhuti is determined to bring a touch of the East to Newcastle.
