The thundering sound of approximately 900 motorbikes filled the air, as the Balele Rally rode into Utrecht on Friday, March 29.
The Balele Rally is an annual event arranged by bikers for bikers, becoming a highlight on the Utrecht social calendar since its inception 17 years ago.
Kicking off on Friday, the three-day rally saw the Utrecht community witness a mass ride through town on Saturday morning, March 30.
This was followed by death-defying stunts performed by Deon Dreyer and AJ Oliver. Their fearless stunts leaving spectators with bated breath, as they put on a show of epic proportions.
Adding to the high-octane fun, spectators witnessed high-speed, adrenaline fuelled drag racing. IG van der Merwe clinched the drag racing win, pushing his Hayabusa 1300 to the limits in the pursuit of victory. AJ Oliver took the 1000 class win, his BMW 1000 RR proving to be a formidable beast against his racing opponents.
While the Balele Rally is an annual event for bikers, there is a charitable side to it.
Each year, the rally donates a substantial amount to a charitable organisation within Utrecht. Jasper Janeke of the Balele Rally says this year’s beneficiaries are Utrecht’s old age home Huis Joanna, Bergsig School, Utrecht Omgee groep and Utrecht Nature Conservation Caravan Park.
“A big thank you must go out to everybody who supported the rally, from our sponsors to the community. We hope to see you all next year at the Balele Rally 2020,” concludes Jasper.
With the bikers adding a spirit of high-speed entertainment to the weekend, their sense of camaraderie uniting the community, the event was truly a success.
