Balele Rally to ride into Utrecht

Come March 29, Utrecht is going to play host to scores of bikers. The sound of their roaring engines set to fill the town’s streets. Their mission is a simple one.

From March 29 to March 30, the annual Balele Rally will be taking place. An event which is not only 17 years old, but is a highlight of the town’s social calender.

JJ Janeke, one of the event’s organisers, explains while the Balele Rally is about offering bikers an opportunity to have fun, there is more altruistic motives behind it.

“We are also a non-profit organisation, so all the money we make goes to our beneficiaries,” he says.

These beneficiaries are Huis Johanna Old Age Home, Bergsig School in Utrecht, Utrecht Nature Conservation and Utrecht Omgee Groep.

“We give these organisations the monies on the Friday, March 29. Then a live band will perform on the evening.

On March 30, we have a mass ride through the town. Locals are more than welcome to come and watch the death-defying stunts which will take place in Van Rooyen Street.

The stunts will be done by professional bikers and will be free of charge.

At the rally site, entrance will be R200 per person, which includes accommodation, just bring a tent.
