Artificial Intelligence offering sex and immortality

Artificial Intelligence offering sex and immortality

The line between reality and science fiction is breaking down, and robots are slowly but surely penetrating society.

While the rise of the machines is upon us, we need not fear about an army of robotic soldiers enslaving us. Unless that’s your fetish, of course. Robotics plays an instrumental part of our lives. From the building of cars to cellphones and straight to the medical world, robots are everywhere.

Will they replace human intimacy?

It would seem so, with mankind now building its idea of the perfect woman. In fact, with robots becoming smarter and more agile every day, sex doll manufacturers and independent robotic companies are designing and building humanlike dolls to have coitus with.

According to some reports, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machinery improving daily, couples might be saving sex for special occasions, whereas robots will be used to satisfy daily needs. Yes, you read that right. It is estimated that life like sex dolls will be commonplace in a decade.

This is a sentiment shared with Doctor Trudy Barber, a pioneer in the impact of technology on sexual intercourse. She believes our growing immersion in technology means it is only a matter of time before it takes a mainstream role. At an International Congress of Love and Sex with Robotics in 2016, Doctor Barber stated AI devices will be socially normal in 25 years’ time.

“I think what will happen is that they will make real-time relationships more valuable and exciting”, she added.

The sex doll trade has grown so much, that a sex doll brother opened in Barcelona, Spain. Lumi Dolls offers four different models to its clientele. Thanks to modern technology, Lumi boasts that its dolls are among the most lifelike on the markets. But like with all prostitutes, enjoying the doll’s company comes at a price. In this case it is $127, R1514, an hour.

Each of the models come complete with a sort of character page on the Lumi Dolls website, which houses a description of the doll’s anatomy, creative inspiration, and what to look forward to in the doll’s room.

But should we be concerned about robots playing a role in our daily lives? According to Professor Noel Sharkey, emeritus professor of robotics at Sheffield University, we should be. Speaking at the Cheltenham Science Festival, he voiced his concern about how the effects of these machines would have on people’s ability to form human relationships.

This concern was made a reality last year, when a Chinese AI engineer built and “married” a robot. Apparently, the 32-year-old Zheng Jaijia committed to the machine after failing to find a human spouse.

But will robotics be restricted to the sex industry?

No, robotics will be developing in other ways. Largely thanks to Sophia, a social humanoid robot. But what makes Sophia special?

Developed by Hanson Robotics, Sophia was made famous by making her first public appearance at the South by Southwest Festival in March 2016, in Austin, Texas, United States. With the ability to display 62 facial expressions, answering questions with meaningful answers, Sophia is truly currently one of a kind. She was granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia on October 25, 2017.

As the first robot gaining citizenship, will robotics end with robots like Sophia becoming a part of society? Or does AI have the potential to grant people immortality?

In 2011, the Russion billionaire and media mogul, Dmitry Itskov founded the 2045 Initiative. The initiative’s ultimate goal is to create technology that can transfer a person’s personality to a more advance, non-biological carrier.

What does this mean?

This means that we as humans have the opportunity to live forever. The first half of the project is to create a robotic version of the human body, controlled by the brain. This part of the project will apparently be complete in 2020.

The final stage of the project is the transfer of human consciousness into a robotic or holographic avatar. This will apparently take place in 2045.
