A 19-year-old man is under police guard after murdering his 20-year-old girlfriend at (not in) Newcastle’s Oval Track, on Sunday, 14 March 2021.
Police spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam explains the 19-year-old suspect allegedly argued with his girlfriend while they were in town. The argument continued, until it escalated to such a degree, the man in question decided to murder the young woman in a bush underneath some trees at (not in) the Oval Track.
Arumugam adds, “According to the suspect’s aunt, whom he lives with in Madadeni, he left home on 13 March 2021 for town. He was questioned by the family, on why he had come home late, stating that he was robbed in town.” Shortly afterwards, he started vomiting and was taken to Madadeni Provincial Hospital for treatment.
However, his family grew suspicious and searched his room. They then found a letter, whereby he apologised for killing his girlfriend. In his letter, he went as far as to give directions to where the body could be located.
“The aunt then brought the letter to Newcastle SAPS. A search was carried out in the area mentioned by Newcastle Crime Office members, and the body was found near the Oval Track in the bush.”
The young man has since been arrested and is under police guard at the hospital. Further police investigation continues. Following the incident, what are your thoughts?
