Four people died and two were injured, following a horrific collision on the R34, between Memel and Newcastle, on 4 February 2021.
The incident occurred shortly before 12pm, when a mini-bus and a truck collided. A source on the scene claims, “When emergency services arrived on the scene, we found four people that seemed to be occupants from the taxi, had already died from their injuries. The driver of the truck and the driver of the mini-bus taxi were taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.”
The source further elaborates, the truck had been travelling on its way to Newcastle, while the taxi was driving towards Memel. Allegedly, the taxi had apparently swerved to avoid a pothole, going into the lane of oncoming traffic. It was then that the two vehicles collided.
Currently, emergency personnel are still on the scene. Traffic is being diverted at the entrance of Newcastle leading to Memel. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes while officials work on the scene.
