The cold clutches of winter have set in. Scores of people are now opting for their favourite winter wear; while enjoying a hot supper to keep the winter blues at bay. Snuggling under their warmest blankets in the evening.

However, there are those who are forced to endure full extent of the winter cold. People who cannot afford warm clothing for themselves or their children. People who cannot keep the cold at bay under a warm blanket.

As the less fortunate find themselves struggling to stay warm this winter, there are a select few who strive to bring warmth in the lives of the destitute.

Every year, the Round Table runs the Winter Knights initiative. This is a national project which sees the organisation collecting warm blankets and non-perishable foods for those in need.

The local branch of the Round Table, Ncandu 86 Round Table, is currently running the Winter Knights initiative. As each day grows colder, the Round Table is striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Clinton Sweeting explains the initiative began in the beginning of June. “The purpose of Winter Knights is to help those in need during the winter. While these are testing times with the COVID-19 pandemic, there are people who are really in need.”

With this in mind, Clinton explains that in order for the project to be a success, Ncandu 86 Round Table needs the community’s assistance.

“People can bring their donations of warm blankets and non-perishable foods to me at Newcastle Spar. Ncandu 86 Round Table will then distribute the donations to needy families and to the homeless.”

As the days and nights grow colder, will you be making a difference in the lives of those who need it most? Will you be someone’s knight in shining armour this winter?
