Focusing on curbing the spread of COVID-19, local government is doing its part to ensure it does not spread further.
On Friday, April 3, Amajuba District Municipality Speakers in collaboration, with various stakeholders, embarked on a Covid-19 community awareness campaign.
The campaign started with a door-to-door visits in Groenvlei and Zaaihoek at Emadlangeni Municipality.
The purpose of the campaign was to educate the community members about COVID-19. This includes the precautionary measures that need to be followed in order to curb the spread of this disease.
The speakers emphasized the importance of adhering to the nationwide lockdown rules and regulations set by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The community awareness campaign continued with the team visiting the Dannhauser Municipality and Newcastle Municipality on Saturday and Sunday.
Newcastle Mayor Cllr. Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba will be conducting a similar campaign on Tuesday, April 8.
Dr Mahlaba will hand out soaps and information pamphlets to various households across the municipality.
The mayor says he believes the only way to defeat this virus is for people to stay at homes and wash their hands religiously. He further bemoaned the large number of people who continued to roam the streets despite the contagious nature of the Coronavirus.
