With the holidays now coming to an end, as Newcastillians prepare to return to their daily routines, it seems the SAPS have been working diligently to protect the community.
Recently, members from the Newcastle Task Team assisted the Osizweni Crime Prevention unit in a two-day intelligence-driven operation.
Following up on information, the officers targeted a house at Msomi Stand, Blaauwbosch, At the home, the officers seized two full mandrax tablets, two halves of mandrax tablets and one-quarter of a mandrax tablet.
The operation did not end there, with the officers then rushing to another home and confiscating one 9mm pistol and an empty magazine.
During the same operation, the officers confiscated another 9mm pistol and a magazine from an individual from the Dry Cut area.
Following up on further information, the officers rushed to Msomi Stand, Blaauwbosch, recovering one 9mm pistol and six rounds of information.
Another firearm was also confiscated along with five rounds of ammunition at Ndlovu Stand, Blaauwbosch. Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube explains the firearm’s serial number had been erased.
The suspects who were found with the firearms were charged for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, while the suspect caught with the mandrax will be charged for drug possession.
