Loerie Street was filled with activity in the early hours of this morning, August 28. Firefighters, police officers and paramedics rushing to Avalon Guest Manor, as flames engulfed the popular guest house.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 am when Magenta Security received a call for a house fire.
According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren from WATCO Emergency Medical Services, the Newcastle Fire Department, Armed Response and ambulances were dispatched. On arrival, the teams found the guest house fully engulfed in flames.
“More fire engines were sent to the scene and the fire was prevented from spreading to other buildings on the premises. The fire was quickly brought under control, but unfortunately, extensive damage was caused to the main building,” says van Vuuren.
According to an unofficial police source on the scene, the cause of the fire is unknown.
One person was treated on scene by WATCO Emergency Services.
