The Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) 2019/2020 season cast off this weekend, with teams prepped for an action-packed season of competitive angling.
The NFWAA affiliates for the season are Itec Freespool and Chelmsford AC of Newcastle, Docrats AC and Riverside AC of Dundee and the young and vibrant Endumeni AC of Glencoe.
This season sees a new sponsor to the angling fraternity. The association is grateful to welcome Devland Impuphu Wholesaler, who is joining hands with NFWAA and their partnership is sure to make the season more exciting.
The calendar for the upcoming season will see participants taking part in five leagues, three knockout rounds and an internal championships comp.
The Devland Impuphu league 1 took place at Richgate, Ntshingwayo Dam this past weekend. With the anglers in high spirits, participants queued at the gates from as early as 2 am to secure the best spots in the competition area.
Bites were slow as expected at this time of the year. In order to get fish biting, anglers turned to their magic potions in their secret boxes to land any sizeable fish.
At the weigh-in at 4 pm, anglers were tense as nets were placed before the scale master.
The defending champions, Itec Freespool, were the epitome of confidence, showing little concern, during the weigh-in.
The league results are as follows:
Itec Freespool ended with 18 points, followed closely by Endumeni AC with 17 points, Riverside AC finished with 16 points, Docrats AC with 11 points and bringing up the rear was Chelmsford on 8 points.
The top catches for the day came from the duo Shane Nimmerhout who landed a 4.050 kg carp and Alvin Nimmerhout who caught a 3.850kg barbel. Both anglers hail from Docrats AC.
NFWAA chairperson, Clifford Robson, would like to thank all clubs for their continued support. He extends a further thanks to the sponsors, Devland Impuphu, for contributing to the angling community of Newcastle and surrounding towns.
The next fixture will be the first round of the Devland Impuphu Knockout which will take place on the 8th of September at Sanford.
Well done to all the anglers and may you have a successful season.
