A staggering 265 people were arrested for sexual offences during the month of July. A figure which resonates the importance of vigilant police officers.
In a statement released on Wednesday, August 7, Provincial spokesperson, Lt-Col Thulani Zwane explained 39 convictions have now been secured as a result of great police work.
The remaining cases are still under investigation and pending in court.
Lt-Col Zwane elaborates, that out those 39 convictions, three of the accused are facing life imprisonment. The others are looking at a total of 466 years’ imprisonment.
The statement further claims the accused were convicted for an array of crimes, which include rape, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, murder, child pornography, child abandonment and robbery.
Following the crackdown on offenders, Lt-Col Zwane says specialised police units will be intensifying their investigations during the month of August.
In the combat against crimes against women and children, the KZN SAPS deserve acknowledgement for their efforts in safeguarding the community. Well done.
