When it comes to combatting crime, police officers are at the forefront of removing the criminal element from society. Yet, fighting the war against crime is not one which the SAPS can do alone.
This is evident when referring to the latest crime stats released by the SAPS in 2018, which shows that during the 2017/2018 period there were a staggering 101 common robbery cases reported, a further 187 cases of robbery with aggravated circumstances were also brought to book.
24 cases of robbery at non-residential properties, as well as a further 165 cases of burglaries at non-residential properties.
A staggering 526 cases of commercial crime and a further 324 cases of shoplifting reported in the abovementioned time period.
In an attempt to reduce crimes affecting local businesses, the Newcastle SAPS is inviting businesspeople to attend a Business Against Crime Meeting.
The meeting will take place at the Newcastle SAPS Conference Room on July 10 at 11 am.
Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, says the purpose of the meeting is two-fold:
- To revive the committee and elect a new chairperson
- To formulate strategies to combat crime
As crime affects the entire community, representatives of various businesses are encouraged to participate in the meeting.
