Is a town settlement being built for whites only?

Be seen by thousands of Newcastillians!

Gone are the days where people live in certain suburbs or towns based on the colour of their skin or language. Or is it?

It seems a settlement solely for white people is rising within the Northern Cape. Situated just outside Garies in the Northern Cape and named “Eureka”, the settlement’s founder is apparently promising a free 1 000 square metre piece of land to any white South African who wants to allegedly help fight against the so-called uprooting of the white race. Sentiments which sound racist within itself.

Adriaan Alettus Nieuwoudt, the settlement’s founder, claims he is the official co-ordinator of the Eureka Movement of South Africa.

But why create a whites’ only town? That’s a bit racist, isn’t it?

Niewoudt says BBBEE and farm murders are two of the issues which have apparently prompted the establishment of the town. Adding fuel to the fire, while denying they are racists, he says black people will be denied entry to the settlement.

Interracial marriages and relationships are also apparently frowned upon.

The settlement is apparently described as a security town, where people can lead out their lives, work, retire and get medical services, all in their mother language, which is Afrikaans.

While the idea of the town is being met with resistance, with the local municipality obtaining an interdict to prevent further construction on the property, Nieuwoudt is adamant that he will continue.

He claims Eureka settlement has more than 5 000 members, with approximately 20 families already living on the property. With space available for 20 000 more people, he says if they are stopped from building, then it will be against the Constitution.

Whether the town will be allowed to formally establish remains to be seen. But the underlying racial issues can surely not be good.

What are your thoughts on the situation? Do you think the town of Eureka has a democratic right to be established or do you think it is a form of racism?
