While Newcastillians were revelling in New Year parties, the SAPS were hard at work. Targeting unscrupulous drug dealers in the pursuit of justice.
On December 31, oSizweni Policing Area with the assistance of oSizweni Crime Prevention Unit held an intelligence-driven operation. The operation began in the afternoon, ending on January 2.
Following up on information on drug dealing, the officers went to a household in Section F, oSizweni on December 31. At the house, the officers recovered three full mandrax tablets, two half mandrax tablets and two-quarters of a mandrax tablet.
On January 1, during the early hours of the morning, the police targeted a house in Section A, oSizweni. Upon arrival, the officers recovered one matchbox containing two full mandrax tablets and one quarter mandrax tablet.
On the same day, the officers went to KwaMaKhanya Shopping Complex. Reaching the petrol station, the police noticed a suspicious male hanging around the area, Deciding to search him, the officers found a matchbox with six full mandrax tablets inside it.
The three-day intelligence-driven operation proved to be a success. Through the three drug busts, the officers arrested two men and one woman for possession of mandrax. All the suspects are between the ages of 21 years and 27 years of age.
The drugs have an estimated street value of approximately R2000.
Further investigations will continue. However, the suspects will face charges for drug possession and appear in the Madadeni Magistrate Court.
