A series of intelligence driven operations by the SAPS in oSizweni has seen a substantial dent in the crime rate in oSizweni.

The first operation took place on April 16. Newcastle SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, explained the oSizweni Policing area with the assistance of Newcastle Cluster Task Team, and Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unit targeted drug dealers in the oSizweni area after receiving information.

The first house in Blaauwbosch saw 30 mandrax tablets seized. The second house, also in Blaauwbosh, saw a plastic bag containing marijuana being confiscated. Both suspects are now in police custody.

Following the two arrests, they searched a man walking in Section F, oSizweni. He was found in possession of four full mandrax tablets, half a mandrax tablet, and one quarter of mandrax. He was subsequently arrested.

Following the arrest of the three suspects, the officers returned to Blaauwbosch where they managed to arrest a man, who was in possession of suspected stolen goods.

The suspected goods included a shifting spanner, a multipurpose spanner, two screw drivers, a luggage bag and a gate.

The second operation took place on April 17. This operation was driven by oSizweni Policing area, with the assistance of the oSizweni Crime Prevention Unit.

Following up on information, the police officials descended on a house, where a woman was allegedly selling dagga. Upon investigations, dry loose dagga weighing 139kg and dry loose dagga in a white plastic bag, weighing 36grams was found.

The third intelligence driven operation was conducted on April 18, by the oSizweni Policing area with the assistance of the oSizweni Crime Prevention.

During the operation, a man was arrested after he was caught with dagga, two full mandrax tablets, two half mandrax tablet, three quarter mandrax tablets.

The fourth operation was conducted over a period of three days, from April 20 to April 22. During the three days, five drug dealers were arrested.

A staggering 58 pokes of marijuana, three mandrax tablets and two quarter mandrax tablets were confiscated. The drugs have an estimate street value of R5 000.

Further investigations into the cases are underway.
